Dark Days in the Midst of Holiday Cheer?

movetoaction

Gratitude & Acceptance is key and will take on new meaning in the next 2-3 minutes.

When we are feeling down, and totally focused on oneself, we open ourselves to depression and self-pity. Our body language is different, our energy is low, and we may even physically hold our head down, refusing to look up.

We need to change our position, physically, mentally, and emotionally…we need to stand up, pray, look up, express gratitude (as there are still things for which to be grateful); and get in motion. Yes, we need to physically move! Perhaps, we take a walk, play with the dog, go to the gym, and then soak in a relaxing salt-water bath or take a hot steamy shower; but we need to pull those mental health tools out of the proverbial toolbox to help ourselves through those dark days.

Holidays can be especially difficult when associated with lost family members, financial challenges, and strained relationships; but you can get through it. You can push through the pain, with grace! For what are you most grateful today?

Let’s think about it… Can we name 5 things? I am grateful to have…

a. The basic necessities of life

b. The ability to love and be loved

c. My faith and belief in God

d. The good and bad examples in life

e. The ability to forgive and be forgiven

“And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation – some fact of my life – unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it supposed to be at this moment.”

(Alcoholics Anonymous, Fourth Edition, page 417).
